The Toronto Blue Jays have designated struggling left-hander Ryan Borucki for assignment and recalled right-hander Trent Thornton from triple-A Buffalo.
Borucki has a 9.95 ERA in 6.1 innings this year. He gave up a walkoff grand slam to Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals last Monday and also was ineffective in the Blue Jays’ last game on Sunday, giving up two runs in one inning against the Los Angeles Angels.
The move leaves Andrew Vasquez as the only healthy left-hander in the Blue Jays bullpen.
Thornton has a 3.52 ERA in 15.1 innings with the Blue Jays this year.
