The Washington Capitals spending spree continues.

Washington signed defenceman Matt Roy to a six-year, $34.5 million contract worth 5.75 million AAV, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Monday.

Roy, 29, is a solid right-side defenceman who tallied five goals and 20 assists with the Los Angeles Kings last season.

He has spent all six years of his NHL career in L.A. after being drafted by the team in the seventh round, 194th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The Capitals have had an active day, swinging a big deal with the Ottawa Senators for fellow defenceman Jakob Chychrun.
