Mark Weightman is stepping down as the president and chief executive officer of the Montreal Alouettes, the CFL club announced Wednesday.

Weightman, who joined the Alouettes in March 2023, did not give a reason for his departure in a team statement but said he leaves with the team “back at the top of the Canadian Football League.”

Montreal won the Grey Cup in 2023 and finished with the best regular-season record in the league last year before a narrow 30-28 loss to Toronto in the East Division final ended its season.

The team said Weightman’s duties will be divided among the current members of Montreal’s senior management team.

Director of finance René Masson will become senior vice-president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

General manager Danny Maciocia will add senior vice-president of football operations to his duties.
