Minnesota Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov to be game-time decision

Watch as Edmonton Oilers forward Drake Caggiula delivers a hard hit on Minnesota Wild's Kirill Kaprizov, sparking a quick fight between Caggiula and Matt Boldy.

Minnesota Wild fans will have to wait a little bit longer to find out about the availability of star forward Kirill Kaprizov and centre Marat Khusnutdinov.

The Athletic‘s Michael Russo said that Wild head coach John Hynes was tight-lipped if the duo would play against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.

However, Russo shared that Kaprizov completed line rushes in the morning skate, while Khusnutdinov did not.

Russo added that Swedish goaltender Filip Gustavsson would start.

Kaprizov briefly left Thursday night’s game against Edmonton after a collision with Oilers forward Drake Caggiula. The play happened in the second period when the 27-year-old was skating through the neutral zone and was caught awkwardly by Caggiula. He eventually returned and finished the game.

As a result, the Russian was not available for Saturday’s clash against the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury, and was listed as day-to-day after an MRI revealed no serious damage.

Regarding Khusnutdinov, Russo said the 22-year-old was injured blocking a shot from Evan Bouchard in the third period in the same game against the Oilers.

Kaprizov is currently second in the NHL with 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 19 games, one point behind Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon. The forward also has a franchise-record 11-game road point streak (24 points) for the Wild, who sit second in the Central Division.

Khusnutdinov has two assists in 19 games. The fellow Russian was selected by the Wild in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft with the 37th pick overall.
