Penguins’ Jarry leaves Winter Classic, will not return, DeSmith takes over in net

Watch as Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry appears to have some discomfort, and went to the locker room midway through the first period with an apparent injury.

Goalie Tristan Jarry left the Pittsburgh Penguins‘ Winter Classic game against the Boston Bruins on Monday in the first period with a lower-body injury.

The team reported at the beginning of the second period that he will not return.

Casey DeSmith came in with 4:30 minutes remaining in the opening period and will stay in net for the remainder of the game.

Jarry, 27, made eight saves in the first 15 minutes before leaving with what appeared to be a leg injury.

DeSmith, 31, has played in 12 games this season, posting a 4-6-2 record with a 3.00 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
