QMJHL Roundup: Tigres shut out Foreurs for second consecutive win

VAL-D’OR, Que. — Nikolas Hurtubise stopped all 26 shots for the shutout and the Victoriaville Tigres blanked the Val-d’Or Foreurs 4-0 Saturday for their second straight victory in the QMJHL.

Conor Frenette, with two, Olivier Coulombe and Loick Daigle scored for the Tigres (7-8-2). Vincent Sevigny and Tommy Cormier chipped in with two assists apiece.

William Blackburn turned aside 27 pucks in a losing effort for the Foreurs (7-7-1).

It was a battle between the bottom two teams in the Western Conference.

BATHURST, N.B. — Jacob Melanson score twice and Jan Bednar made 30 saves for Acadie-Bathurst (8-7-2), which went 2 for 4 on the power play. Xavier Bourgault netted a third-period hat trick in the loss for Shawinigan (10-5-2).

SAINT JOHN, NB. — Fabrice Fortin scored with 48 seconds left in the third period and Felix Lafrance added an empty netter 39 seconds later as Chicoutimi (7-7-3) doubled up Saint John (8-7-2) for their second win in a row.

SYDNEY, N.S. — The conference-leading Charlottetown Islanders (7-5-1) scored five goals on 42 shots in a lop-sided encounter. Cape Breton (4-10-4) was outshot 17-3 in the first period alone.
