Raptors waive Dinwiddie, several teams interested in buyout market

Newly acquired Toronto Raptors guard Spencer Dinwiddie was waived as the trade was made official on Thursday, the team announced.

Dinwiddie was sent to Toronto in a trade that saw guard Dennis Schroder and centre Thaddeus Young head to Brooklyn, but he will not be a member of the team. The move will leave the Raptors with two open roster spots.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Toronto waived Dinwiddie to avoid a $1.5 million bonus in his contract for games played. He was set to be an unrestricted free agent in the off-season but will coveted by playoff teams in the buyout market, including the Los Angeles Lakers, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Dallas Mavericks and the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 48 games this season with the Nets, the 30-year-old has averaged 12.6 points, 6 assists and 3.3 rebounds on 39.1 per cent shooting from the field, and 32 per cent from three.
