Red Wings sign F Austin Watson to one-year, two-way contract

The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Austin Watson to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Monday.

The financial terms of the deal were not reported.

Watson joined the Red Wings for training camp and pre-season on a professional tryout contract, tallying an assist over four games.

The 32-year-old spent last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and picked up two goals and two assists over 33 games. He also had 93 penalty minutes.

Originally drafted 18th overall in 2010 by the Nashville Predators, Watson has picked up 60 goals, 58 assists and 705 penalty minutes over 515 career NHL regular season games.

He has played for the Predators, Ottawa Senators and the Lightning over the course of his 10-year professional career.
