Devon Levi is going back to the minors.

The young Buffalo Sabres goaltender will be returned to AHL Rochester, coach Lindy Ruff told reporters on Monday.

The Sabres don’t want Levi, 22, to have long stretches between games, as has been the case for much of this season with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen grabbing the No. 1 job.

The Sabres reclaimed James Reimer on waivers from Anaheim last week after losing him to the Ducks earlier this season. The veteran can’t be sent to the minors without clearing waivers.

Luukkonen has been out the past two games, dealing with what the team has called a minor ailment. Levi played in those two games, going 1-1 while allowing seven goals.

Levi has a 3.95 goals-against average and .870 save percentage this season. He was the Sabres’ starting goaltender on opening night last season after a promising late-campaign run in 2022-23 following the end of his college career.

But Levi struggled at points last season and also saw time in Rochester.

Meanwhile, Ruff said winger Jordan Greenway is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.

Fellow winger Alex Tuch has a minor injury and is day-to-day, per Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News.

Star forward Tage Thompson, who has missed the past two games with a lower-body injury, is making progress and could return Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Kings.
