The San Jose Sharks have rewarded defenceman Nikolai Knyzhov with a two-year contract extension after the 25-year-old returned to the ice following two years of injury recovery.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports the contract is worth $2.5 million over the two seasons.
Knyzhov made his NHL debut with the Sharks in the 2020-21 shortened season but two sports hernia surgeries, an adductor repair and a bone infection kept him out of the lineup for the entire 2021-22 campaign. Then, last August, Knyzhov tore his Achilles tendon doing off-ice training which kept him out of the lineup until earlier this month.
Knyzhov returned to the Sharks lineup on March 9 and has played in nine games this season. He has three goals and 11 points in 68 career games.
