We won't get an all-Canadian quarterfinal at the Adelaide International.
Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Montreal's Felix Auger-Aliassime would have squared off if both won their respective matches on Wednesday at the Adelaide International, but the Canadians settled for a 1-1 record.
Shapovalov lost 7-5, 6-2 to Marcos Giron of the U.S. after an upset win over No. 9 seed Zhang Zhizhen of China in the opening round.
The fifth-seeded Auger-Aliassime, meanwhile, rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Arthur Cazaux of France.
Auger-Aliassime is 4-1 lifetime against Giron heading into their quarterfinal.
The ATP Tour 250 event is a tune-up for the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the season starts this weekend.
