Felix Auger-Aliassime is off to a promising start this season.
The Canadian, seeded fifth, earned a berth in the semifinals of the Adelaide International with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over world No. 45 Marcos Giron of the U.S. on Thursday.
Auger-Aliassime is now 3-1 on the season, including a win over world No. 4 Taylor Fritz of the U.S. at the United Cup.
The Montrealer will next face top seed Tommy Paul of the U.S. in the Adelaide semis. Paul is ranked 12th in the world, while Auger-Aliassime is 29th.
The Adelaide event is a tune-up for the Australian Open, which starts Sunday in Melbourne.
Auger-Aliassime will face Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany in the first round of the first Grand Slam of the year.
