Canada's Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau advance in Wimbledon qualifying

Canada's Gabriel Diallo and Alexis Galarneau are heading to the second round of qualifying at Wimbledon.

Diallo beat Aziz Dougas of Tunisia 6-7 (8), 6-1, 7-6 (6) in the first round on Monday in London, while Galarneau topped Manuel Guinard of France 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Diallo, from Montreal, qualified for this year's French Open and then lost in the first round of his Grand Slam debut. Galarneau, from Laval, Que., has yet to play in a Grand Slam.

Players need to win three qualifying matches to be guaranteed a spot in the main draw.

Galarneau will face No. 20 qualifying seed Richard Gasquet of France in the second round, while Diallo will meet No. 8 qualifying seed Daniel Elahi Galán of Colombia.

On the women's side, Canada's Rebecca Marino, Carol Zhao and Marina Stakusic will play first-round qualifying matches on Tuesday.

The main draw of Wimbledon starts on July 1.
