Toronto-born catcher Brady Cerkownyk is the Canadian Baseball Network's Canadian college player of the year.
The former Connors State Cowboys star got 46 of 53 first-place votes in a panel of scouts, coaches, executives, former players and baseball writers.
Playing for an Oklahoma-based school in the National Junior College Athletic Association, Cerkownyk ranked first in total bases (199), RBIs (107) and slugging percentage (.985) and second in batting average (.470) and home runs (27). He also topped all Canadians in the U.S. college ranks in batting average, RBIs, slugging, OPS (1.540) and hits (95).
Cerkownyk, who was in his freshman year at Connors State, was selected in the 15th round of the MLB draft in July by the Detroit Tigers. He signed with the big-league club and played in the Florida Complex League.
