Astros place Martinez on DL with knee sprain

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros have placed outfielder J.D. Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee and activated outfielder Fernando Martinez from the disabled list to take his spot on the roster.

J.D. Martinez was injured on a check swing in the fourth inning of Friday night’s game. He is hitting .244 with two homers and seven RBIs this season.

Fernando Martinez has been on the disabled list since March 27 with a strained left oblique. He played five rehabilitation games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Fernando Martinez hit six home runs with 14 RBIs in 41 games for the Astros last season.
