TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are calling up catching prospect Danny Jansen, according to three industry sources, and are expected to start right-hander Sean Reid-Foley on Monday in Kansas City against the Royals.
Yangervis Solarte, who suffered a right oblique injury Saturday, is likely headed to the disabled list to make room for Jansen, who is batting .275/.390/.473 in 88 games at triple-A Buffalo.
The 23-year-old also appeared in the Futures Game prospect showcase during Major League Baseball’s all-star week festivities in July.
The Blue Jays need a starter for Monday and after days of deliberations, opted for Reid-Foley, 22, who is 12-4 with a 2.98 ERA over a combined 23 starts at Buffalo and double-A New Hampshire.
Over his 15 outings for the Bisons, he has a 3.50 ERA, 1.154 WHIP and 10.4 strikeouts per nine over 82.1 innings.
Left-hander Thomas Pannone, who debuted Friday, is another Blue Jays prospect to have recently broken through.
