Blue Jays’ Grichuk: I was hoping to be traded to Toronto

Newest Blue Jays outfield Randal Grichuk joins the Jeff Blair Show to discuss Toronto as one of the destinations he hoped for, and his comfort level playing all three outfield positions.

Going into the off-season, Randal Grichuk knew there was a possibility he could be traded. The St. Louis Cardinals simply had too many outfielders and something had to give.

Grichuk did his research and learned the Toronto Blue Jays were searching for outfield help and that there was a chance he could be dealt to the American League club.

“That’s one of the teams I was hoping to be traded to,” Grichuk said Friday morning during an appearance on The Jeff Blair Show on Sportsnet 590 The FAN. “Obviously I had no control over it, but when I heard then news I was super excited.”

Grichuk, 26, was acquired by the Blue Jays last week for right-handers Dominic Leone and Conner Greene. He told Blair he’s excited at the opportunity for a fresh start in Toronto’s “good, hitter-friendly ballpark.”

The outfielder also spoke about what position he’ll likely play with his new club and simplifying his approach at the plate. Listen to the full interview in the audio player below.
