The Toronto Blue Jays officially named Shane Farrell as amateur scouting director on Thursday morning.
The son of former Blue Jays manager John Farrell, Shane Farrell had been a scout with the Chicago Cubs since 2012, working as an amateur scouting assistant and area scout.
In 2011, Farrell was a 46th-round draft pick by the Blue Jays as a pitcher out of Marshall University, though he never played professionally.
Farrell joins the Blue Jays after Steve Sanders left the role to become assistant general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, working alongside new Pirates GM and former Blue Jays vice president of baseball operations Ben Cherington.
