The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned right-handed pitcher Justin Shafer to triple-A Buffalo. A corresponding move will be announced Tuesday before the team’s home game against the New York Yankees.

Shafer, 26, has pitched 3.2 innings of relief in three games for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 4.91 ERA and registering two strikeouts.

He pitched the seventh inning in Sunday’s 5-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies, giving up one run and two hits.

In other Blue Jays news, left-hander Zac Rosscup cleared waivers and has opted to become a free agent.

Rosscup, who turns 31 on June 9, was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays from the Seattle Mariners on May 23. He pitched one inning over two games for the Blue Jays, giving up three hits and three earned runs, while walking two and striking out two others.
