The Toronto Blue Jays are sending struggling outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to Buffalo, optioning him to the triple-A Bisons. Infielder Richard Urena has been recalled.
Hernandez hasn’t had much luck at the plate of late, batting .189/.262/.299 with three home runs in 39 games with a Toronto squad that’s struggling in the scoring department as a whole. He struck out four times in Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants, with manager Charlie Montoyo pointing to his confidence as the issue.
“For sure his confidence is down,” Montoyo said, via Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.
“Everybody can tell by looking at him.”
Urena, 23, is batting .313/.333/.406 in 11 games for the Blue Jays this season. He was sent to the minors back on April 27 to make room for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the 25-man roster.
