Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect T.J. Zeuch has thrown a no-hitter for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
Zeuch, a first-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2016 (21st overall), gave up one walk and one hit-by-pitch, striking out three as the Bisons, Toronto’s minor-league affiliate, shut out the Rochester Red Wings 3-0 on Monday.
“I felt pretty good,” Zeuch told Spectrum News Rochester. “I didn’t think in the first couple of innings I was executing my pitches as well as I would have liked to. Obviously, sometimes baseball just goes in your favour.
“But I thought as the game progressed, my pitch execution was a lot much better. Beau [Taylor] did an unbelievable job back there calling pitches especially for the first time he’s ever caught me.”
The right-handed Zeuch is the club’s 17th-best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
Centre fielder Jonathan Davis made a highlight-reel grab with two outs in the ninth inning to keep the no-hitter alive.
“I saw J.D. sprinting in and I knew he was going to get to it, he gets to everything out there,” said Zeuch.
“He kind of looked up, I thought ‘oh man, that’s dropping,’ then the minute I saw his eyes kind of light up and he started sprinting in as fast as he could, I knew he was going to catch it.”
Beau Taylor made his debut behind the plate for the Bisons after the catcher was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays on Aug. 16.
