The Toronto Blue Jays have placed infielder Breyvic Valera on the restricted list, the team announced Tuesday.

Toronto claimed Valera off waivers from the San Diego Padres on July 2. The 28-year-old did not report to camp for reasons that were not given, though Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reports that Valera has had trouble getting out of Venezuela.

Valera split time between the Blue Jays and New York Yankees in 2019, slashing .234/.308/.383 over 17 games.

The Blue Jays open their 60-game 2020 season on Friday on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays.
