Blue Jays place Shoemaker on 10-day IL, recall Waguespack

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed pitcher Matt Shoemaker on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, the team announced Sunday.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays recalled pitcher Jacob Waguespack from the team’s taxi squad. He will be listed as active for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In 25.2 innings pitched this season, Shoemaker has 25 strikeouts, 4.91 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP.

Waguespack last pitched on Thursday in the second game of the Blue Jays’ doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. This season, the 26-year-old has 14 strikeouts, a 3.97 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP in 11.1 innings pitched.
