The Toronto Blue Jays have promoted pitcher Julian Merryweather from the taxi squad and he will be available to make his MLB debut on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Right-hander Jacob Waguespack was optioned to the Blue Jays’ alternate training site in a corresponding move.

Toronto acquired Merryweather in the 2018 trade that sent Josh Donaldson to the Cleveland Indians. Merryweather has struggled to stay healthy since joining the Blue Jays organization, but remains an enticing relief prospect due to a fastball that can reach the upper 90s and a change-up considered to be among the best in the team’s pipeline.

The 28-year-old owns a 23-20 record in the minors with an ERA of 4.00.
