Blue Jays prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ‘fine’ after injury scare

Fresh off injury, Blue Jays top prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was forced to leave the Fisher Cats game again, after gingerly running out an infield single, then sliding into 2nd awkwardly.

Toronto Blue Jays mega prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left Wednesday’s double-A game with an injury.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats third baseman collected two hits on the day, but in the fourth inning he slid into second base and quickly signalled to the medical staff. He was promptly removed from the contest against the Akron RubberDucks.

Earlier in the game, he gingerly ran up the first base line after on a close play.

“He feels fine, we’re just being cautious with it,” Fisher Cats manager John Schneider said in a statement. “Just to make sure whenever he’s back to be full strength.”

Schneider added he doesn’t believe the injury to be severe.

“He checks out fine, but with him and all of our players, we’re just being careful and making sure he’s good to go.”

This was only Guerrero Jr.’s second game back after missing some time with an ankle issue that he tweaked during Saturday’s game.

The 19-year-old has been dominating the Eastern League, slashing .401/.453/.663 with 11 home runs through 52 games. His eventual promotion to the major leagues has been a constant point of discussion surrounding the Blue Jays this season.
