Blue Jays release Alen Hanson, infielder acquired in Kevin Pillar trade

The Toronto Blue Jays have released Alen Hanson, a second baseman who was acquired in the trade that sent Kevin Pillar to the San Francisco Giants.

The Blue Jays acquired Hanson on April 2 along with reliever Derek Law and pitching prospect Juan De Paula in the Pillar trade.

Hanson, 26, appeared in 18 major league games for the Blue Jays after the trade, hitting .163/.229/.163 with four RBIs. He was designated for assignment on May 3 and after clearing waivers was assigned to triple-A Buffalo on May 7.

In 48 games with Buffalo Hanson hit .187/.232/.271 with three home runs and 18 RBIs. He went hitless in four at bats in his final game with Buffalo on Thursday.
