Blue Jays’ Rowdy Tellez cracks 25-man Opening Day roster

MLB insider Jon Paul Morosi joins the Starting Lineup to discuss the Kendrys Morales trade to Oakland, and why Anthony Alford and Rowdy Tellez might benefit most from this deal on the Blue Jays side.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Rowdy Tellez has made the club’s 25-man roster ahead of their Home Opener Thursday.

The team opened up a roster spot when they traded DH Kendrys Morales and cash considerations to the Oakland Athletics Wednesday night, the eve of the 2019 MLB season. The Blue Jays also acquired minor-league infielder Jesus Lopez in the exchange, and were able to add some room to their international bonus pool.

Tellez, 24, got his first look at the majors in a 23-game stint to close out the 2018 season after spending the bulk of the year with Triple-A Buffalo. In 70 at bats with the Blue Jays, Tellez had a .314 batting average and .329 on-base percentage with four home runs and 14 RBIs.
