Blue Jays select RHP CJ Van Eyk with second-round pick in MLB draft

Blue Jays director of scouting, Shane Farrell joins Writers Bloc to discuss the team's 2020 MLB Draft picks from Rounds 2-5, and why he's really excited about their 2nd round pick, CJ Van Eyk.

After taking Austin Martin — arguably the top prospect in the draft — with their first-round pick, the Toronto Blue Jays selected right-handed pitcher CJ Van Eyk in the second round on Thursday.

The Florida State product pitched to a 1.31 ERA in 20.2 innings in an abbreviated 2020 season with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks. He logged a 3.81 ERA over 18 starts with the Seminoles in 2019.

Van Eyk features a fastball that can hit 95 m.p.h., in addition to a curveball and change-up.

The 21-year-old was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 19th round of the 2017 draft out of high school, but elected to go the college route.
