TORONTO — The Socrates Brito experiment has ended, at least for now.
After striking out 17 times in his first 39 at-bats with the Toronto Blue Jays, Brito was officially designated for assignment Friday afternoon with Jonathan Davis recalled to take his place on the roster.
Davis, who appeared in 20 games for the Blue Jays last year, was hitting .306 with four homers and a 1.125 OPS at triple-A Buffalo. He’ll start in centre field Friday.
Brito’s out of options, which means he’ll now be available to the other 29 teams. But with a .077 average and .291 OPS, he could go unclaimed, in which case the Blue Jays could assign him to triple-A.
Meanwhile, Javy Guerra re-joins the Blue Jays to take the place of Thomas Pannone.
