Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. out of lineup Monday vs. Red Sox

Blue Jays radio voice Ben Wagner joins Baseball Central to make sense of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s scheduled day off on Victoria Day, and the storm created by this decision on social media.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is out of the lineup for the Toronto Blue Jays‘ matchup against the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

According to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, this is a scheduled day off for Guerrero Jr.

He has hit .333/.417/.905 with four home runs and nine RBIs in his last six games, but has yet to hit a ball out of Rogers Centre. He’s batting .235/.325/.441 with 10 RBIs for the year.

The Blue Jays also announced infielder Eric Sogard is out with a left-thumb sprain. Utility man Richard Urena, who was set to make his outfield debut, moved back to second base and Billy McKinney will start at left field.

Toronto takes on the defending World Series champions in a four-game series after a 3-3 road trip to San Francisco and Chicago. Monday’s game also marks journeyman Edwin Jackson’s home debut.

Former Blue Jays David Price and Steve Pearce are in the lineup for the Red Sox.
