CHICAGO — Outfielder Chris Coghlan and the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a one-year contract for $2,505,000 and avoided arbitration.

Coghlan batted .283 with nine home runs and 41 RBIs in 125 games last year, when he made $950,000. He spent his first five seasons with Miami and was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2009.

They were also closing in on a $2.1 million deal with catcher Welington Castillo, who hit .237 last year.

Pitchers Travis Wood, Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop and infielder Luis Valbuena remain in arbitration.
