ANAHEIM, Calif. – Erik Kratz will rejoin the Toronto Blue Jays for Wednesday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Angels, taking the roster spot of outfielder Cole Gillespie, who’s bounds for the disabled list with an oblique strain.
The 34-year-old catcher has been hitting at a torrid pace at triple-A Buffalo since his last demotion, posting a .348/.407/.609 slash line with two homers and 12 RBIs in 13 games.
He returns for his third stint with the Blue Jays, batting .221/.254/.382 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 30 games. He’s also thrown five runners in 17 steal attempts and caught pitchers to a 4.08 ERA in 150 innings.
Gillespie, claimed off waivers Saturday from the Seattle Mariners, has played in one game for the Blue Jays and in 35 total games this season is batting .243/.300/.311 with a homer and five RBIs.
