Carreno was taken off the field on a stretcher and his right eye was nearly swollen shut. Although the severity of the injury isn’t known, Rotoworld reports Carreno may have suffered damage to his orbital bone and could miss the start of spring training.
It’s the second time this off-season a MLB pitcher has been injured by a comebacker. Oakland A’s pitcher Bartolo Colon was hospitalized in late October for a similar incident.
Carreno, 25, appeared in 11 games, including two starts, for the Blue Jays last season and compiled a 0-2 record with a 6.14 earned-run average.
