When Rick Porcello was announced as the winner of the American League Cy Young Award Wednesday night, many were stunned the Boston Red Sox pitcher beat out Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander.
That includes Verlander’s fiancee, model Kate Upton.
Verlander received 14 first-place votes to Porcello’s eight but was left off of two ballots, meaning the Tigers right-hander ultimately fell five points short of Porcello for the honour, 137-132.
To say Upton wasn’t happy would be a understatement, and she took to Twitter to voice her displeasure with the writers who left Verlander off their ballots.
Verlander’s younger brother Ben also wasn’t particularly pleased with the results, and is demanding answers…
But if Verlander himself was angry about the snub, he wasn’t showing it.
Porcello’s first Cy Young comes on the heels of a 22-win season, good for most in the majors. Verlander won the AL Cy Young in 2011.
