PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Veteran relief pitcher Ron Villone is looking for a new team again after the New York Mets released him Friday, but the 39-year-old has resolved not to give up.

Villone, a late non-roster invitee, had a 10.80 ERA this spring after giving up six runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings. He spent last season with St. Louis, finishing with a 4.68 ERA in 50 innings.

The left-hander plans to stay in Florida while pursuing a spot with another team. He has a career record of 56-59 in 14 major league seasons, with a 4.75 ERA and 892 strikeouts.

The Mets also made some other roster moves Friday, reassigning pitcher Nelson Figueroa, catcher Rene Rivera and infielder Andy Green to minor league camp and optioning pitcher Carlos Muniz and outfielder Cory Sullivan.
