Orioles avoid arbitration with OF Scott

BALTIMORE — Outfielder Luke Scott and the Baltimore Orioles have avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a US$6.4-million, one-year contract.

The deal Thursday was above the midpoint between the $6.85 million Scott had asked for when proposed arbitration figures were exchanged last month and the $5.7 million the Orioles had offered.

Scott hit .284 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs last year, when he made $4.05 million.

Right-hander Jeremy Guthrie is the last Baltimore player remaining in arbitration.
