The Toronto Blue Jays have avoided arbitration with right-handed pitcher Matt Shoemaker, settling on a $4.2-million contract for the 2020 season, Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith is reporting.

Shoemaker, 33, was limited to only five starts last season due to an ACL tear in his knee. He earned $3.5 million in 2019, his first year with the Blue Jays.

With Shoemaker now under contract, closer Ken Giles is the only Blue Jays player left eligible for arbitration. The two sides have until Friday’s 1 p.m. ET deadline to submit suggested salary figures for 2020.
