The Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals “have been in contact on possible trades” involving Ken Gilves or Daniel Hudson, according to a report from Jon Morosi of FOX Sports and MLB Network.
The extent of the contact between the clubs, and whether any offer materialized or if both sides were merely doing their due diligence, is not known.
Giles, 29, has posted a 1.59 earned-runs average (ERA), a 1.09 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 34 innings of work for Toronto this season.
Hudson is a 10-year pro who was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2008. In 45 innings for the Blue Jays this year, he’s posted a 2.8 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 44 strikeouts.
The reported contact between the two teams is the latest piece of speculation as to how the Blue Jays will navigate the MLB trade deadline, with much of the attention focused on what will happen with pitcher Marcus Stroman.
The MLB’s trade deadline is Wednesday, July 31.
