Report: Blue Jays trying to trade closer Roberto Osuna

Sportsnet.ca baseball editor Ben Nicholson-Smith discusses all the trade speculation surrounding the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to trade closer Roberto Osuna, the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Monday.

Osuna hasn’t pitched at the MLB level since May 6 after being suspended for violating MLB’s personal conduct policy. The 23-year-old was arrested and charged with assault on May 8.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports the Blue Jays have been “shopping Osuna for weeks” but have not been able to gain much traction in trade talks.

Osuna’s next court date is on Wednesday, and he will be eligible to return to the mound at the MLB level on Aug. 5. He would be eligible to pitch in the post-season this year despite his suspension.

The hard-throwing righty has been pitching in the minors as part of his rehabilitation assignment, and has a 2.93 ERA across 15.1 MLB innings this season, converting nine of 10 save opportunities.
