The Blue Jays are still pursuing Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers and are considering several other starting pitching options, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Toronto has been linked to Fiers, who is under control until 2019 in a very affordable contract. The 30-year-old is 5-8 with a 3.94 ERA in 20 starts this season.
Rosenthal also mentioned that the Jays are interested in White Sox right-hander Jeff Samardzija and Tigers left-hander David Price, if he becomes available. Toronto was also said to be looking at ace Johnny Cueto, before he was reportedly traded to the Royals Sunday afternoon.
With the trade deadline less than a week away, the Blue Jays appear to be ramping up their efforts to strengthen a starting rotation that ranks 24th in MLB with a 4.37 ERA, entering Sunday. Toronto sits at 50-49, good for second place in the American League East, 5.5 games behind the Yankees.
