Report: Josh Donaldson expected to be activated from DL Tuesday

Cleveland Indians third baseman Josh Donaldson is expected to be activated from the disabled list Tueesday, Cleveland.com’s Paul Hoynes reports.

Hoynes says Donaldson will play one more rehab game at double-A Akron Saturday before joining his new Cleveland teammates again in Tampa for a series against the Rays.

Should Donaldson be activated Tuesday, that would likely coincide with his Cleveland debut after getting dealt to the Indians by the Toronto Blue Jays last Friday.

The 32-year-old has been on the disabled list since about the moment Cleveland traded for him, recovering from a calf injury. Prior to the trade, Donaldson was out of Toronto’s lineup with that same injury.

Donaldson’s looked healthy of late, however, hitting a grand slam in his first rehab game with triple-A Columbus on Monday.

The 2015 AL MVP while a member of the Blue Jays, Donaldson played the better part of four seasons with Toronto before he was ultimately traded, with rumours and reports of a soured relationship between him and the Blue Jays on his way out.

Donaldson will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
