Going against his father’s wishes for him to play tennis, Bo Bichette and the Toronto Blue Jays are glad he decided to follow his dream of playing professional baseball.
Dante Bichette Sr. knows what can happen to promising young prospects who are at the mercy of a team’s opinion. His son, Dante Jr., was released by the New York Yankees after hitting a wall in double-A but his son Bo is determined to make his own path.
“It doesn’t surprise me that he’s really successful,” said Bichette Sr. on In The System. “The trick to being successful is getting after it every day and I think Bo has fallen in love with that part of the game.”
Many teams passed on the Orlando, Fl. native because of his swing mechanics, allowing the Blue Jays to select him in the second round of the MLB draft back in 2016.
He’s currently the seventh-ranked prospect in baseball, the second highest from his draft class but knows that he still has to go out and perform which is what has helped him navigate through the Blue Jays system.
“Bo has all the physical tools to be a special player in this game” “He’s an intense competitor, he comes to beat you every day, every pitch he’s focused, that high level of intensity is what makes him stand out.”
