Before the seriousness of the regular season sets in, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander decided to have some fun with a young fan.

The former American League MVP and Cy Young winner posed for a selfie with an unsuspecting child donning a No. 35 Tigers t-shirt.

Love having my fans support!! This little guy was pretty surprised when he turned around.

According to Verlander, the boy was in utter dismay when he turned around.

The six-time all-star will be hoping for a return to form after his numbers dropped across the board in 2014.

Through four starts this spring, Verlander has a 1-1 record to go along with a 6.08 ERA.
