ANAHEIM, Calif. – The latest blow to the Toronto Blue Jays came from an MRI on Adam Lind’s right foot which showed a fracture that could sideline him for 6-to-8 weeks.
Manager John Gibbons revealed the news after Wednesday’s 8-7 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, and the slugger will soon be joining Edwin Encarnacion and Brett Lawrie on the disabled list.
"It’s not good," Lind said of his situation.
Lind injured himself in Baltimore last month when he fouled a ball off his foot that was initially diagnosed as a bone bruise. After a few days off he played through the pain but he stopped improving.
"My mom wanted me to get an MRI, which I hadn’t had yet, because it wasn’t getting any better," Lind said. "I wasn’t showing any improvement and I had enough, really. I needed another exam than just an X-ray or a CAT Scan."
The initial assessment was that he’ll miss 6-to-8 weeks but Lind is scheduled to visit another doctor Friday in Charlotte for a second opinion he’s hoping will be more optimistic.
The fracture isn’t displaced, but he expects his foot to be placed in "a boot while I’m there."
The Blue Jays have an off-day Thursday giving them some time to ponder a roster move.
First baseman Dan Johnson, who leads the International League with 17 homers and 78 walks, seems like the obvious replacement.
