Blue Jays claim Anderson from White Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays claimed first baseman Lars Anderson from the Chicago White Sox, the team announced in a press release Monday.

The 25-year-old appeared in six games for the Boston Red Sox last season, hitting .125 with three strikeouts in eight plate appearances before he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in July in exchange for pitcher Steven Wright.

He was traded from Cleveland to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a three-team deal in December and was later claimed off waivers (Feb. 1) by the White Sox.

Anderson, who was been named by Baseball America as a top 100 prospect on three occasions, has a .272 average with 76 home runs and 415 RBIs in 748 career minor-league games.

The Blue Jays have been searching for depth at first base with David Cooper nursing a back injury. The team announced last week that Cooper will not be reporting to Spring Training.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Kyle Drabek was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
