Trent Thornton sets Blue Jays record for strikeouts in a MLB debut

MLB insider Shi Davidi joins the Jeff Blair Show to discuss the biggest question marks with the Blue Jays pitching staff heading into 2019 Spring Training, and why Trent Thornton might be one to keep an eye on.

It didn’t take long for Trent Thornton to make an impact as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 25-year-old set a franchise record by posting eight strikeouts in his MLB debut Sunday against the Detroit Tigers.

Previously, the record was shared by Matthew Boyd and Marc Rzepczynski who both had seven.

Thornton pitched five innings, allowing just two hits, no runs and no errors. He threw 75 pitches, notching 47 strikes.
