Aaliyah Edwards named second-team All-American

Canada's Aaliyah Edwards was named a second-team All-American on Tuesday after an outstanding senior women's basketball season at UConn.

Edwards, from Kingston, Ont., was a third-team all-American last year.

The six-foot-three power forward averaged 17.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season. Her 16 double-doubles led the Big East as UConn earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Edwards broke her nose in the Big East tournament last weekend, but is expected to return for UConn's Saturday's NCAA tournament opener against No. 14 seed Jackson State.

The Canadian must decide by next month whether she returns for a fifth season at UConn or enters the WNBA Draft, where she's projected to be a first-round pick.

Iowa's Caitlin Clark, UConn's Paige Bueckers, South Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso, Stanford's Cameron Brink, LSU's Angel Reese and USC's JuJu Watkins make up the first team.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has named a women's All-America team since 1987-88.
