After finishing fourth in the AmeriCup and earning a 1-2 record at the Tokyo Olympics, the Canadian women’s basketball team remained in fourth place in the FIBA world rankings.
Behind WNBA stars Kia Nurse and Bridget Carleton, Team Canada failed to qualify to the playoff round in Japan, capping off the tournament in 11th place. The team lost the AmeriCup bronze-medal game to Brazil back in June.
The full list, released on Friday, has Team USA still at No. 1 after first-place results in Tokyo and in the AmeriCup.
Spain emerged as the big surprise, surpassing Australia for second place in the rankings after reaching the Olympic quarterfinals.
