So it turns out that Vaughan’s Andrew Wiggins, the first overall pick of the 2014 draft and frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, may be competing in this year’s dunk contest.
This, according to a tweet from earlier this week claiming Wiggins’ father, Mitchell, a former NBA player himself, has confirmed his son’s participation.
It’s hardly a done deal, but the prospect of a marquee (or soon-to-be) name, not to mention one of the NBA’s most athletic players, entering All-Star Saturday’s premiere event is certainly exciting.

After years of tampering and tweaking the once-great event, the dunk contest is on life support. Wiggins may just breathe fresh life into it.
If Wiggins does say yes, I’d love to see the league go back to four contestants and pit him against Russell Westbrook, Terrence Ross and KJ McDaniels.
