Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers denies reports that Kevin Garnett made any comments about New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony’s wife during their game on Tuesday.
“I know what’s being reported did not happen. I know that as a fact,” Rivers said during his weekly interview on Boston sports radio station WEEI. “You know how this works, a guy does something crazy like Carmelo did, and the way to get (out) of trouble is to say someone else said this. It happens all the time.”
On Wednesday, rumours surfaced that Garnett had told the Knicks forward that Anthony’s wife, Lala, tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios. But Rivers said he was going to “squash” the story.
“(Garnett) does (know where the line is). He does. I will say that,” Rivers said. “I’ve never heard him cross the line. And usually when he talks about guys, it’s usually about their game or their team or what he thinks if the guy’s a winner or loser.”
After the game, a visibly upset Anthony waited outside the Celtics lockerroom to talk to Garnett and the two exchanged words as the following video from TMZ shows:

Anthony was suspended for one game by the NBA following the incident.
Garnett refused to comment when asked about the incident by reporters after Celtics win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
“Ya’ll have a good night,” Garnett said with a slight smile as he left the lockerroom, according to the Boston Herald.
